Silver Through the Ages

Silver Through the Ages

Our favorite material to use here at The Silver Diva, sterling silver has been in use for thousands of years in the making of coins, tableware and jewelry. The word sterling is thought to have come from the Old English word steorling, which means “with a little star”. A bright and beautiful metal used to create memorable gifts, we can’t think of a better phrase to describe sterling silver.

The mining of silver began more than 5,000 years ago in Anatolia and continued in Greece around 1200 B.C. and Spain in 100 A.D. The profits of their silver mines aided these nations in their rises to power, also helping to advance technology. The most important silver find did not take place until the year 1492, when Christopher Columbus arrived in the New World. Mexico and South America were extraordinarily rich in silver, leading to the reinvention of silver from a decorative metal to a much sought after form of wealth and currency.

Nowadays, no country loves sterling silver more than the United States, a trend that was brought about by the minting of the U.S. silver dollar in 1794. Here at The Silver Diva, we work to create unique pieces of sterling silver jewelry and gifts to help families celebrate the important milestones and moments in their lives. Whether you are searching for the perfect gifts for your wedding party, a birthday gift for mom or a little something for yourself, we have plenty of personalized options for you to choose from! Carrissa Posted by Carrissa

Hi! I'm Carrissa and owner of The Silver Diva. I'm a wife and mother to four children (one in college and one in diapers). We just moved to the heartland of America - Ohio after living on a tiny island near Seattle for the last 10 years. I started The Silver Diva so I could wear jewelry that had my children's names on it close to my heart all the time. I so enjoy hearing from all my wonderful customers while creating their custom items! Follow my blog to see what's happening with my business and our crazy family!
